| More than 30 castles and stately houses, 40 estates and domains as well as 44
romantic and early village churches, water and windmills are evidence of life full of tradition
and successful industry. Romantic avenues lead today through the countryside and let you experience
the mature culture of the landscape. The County of the Duchy of Lauenburg itself was only formed in 1876 and annexed at that time to the province of Schleswig-Holstein - unchanged today. Hamburg and Lübeck continually had an influence on the develoment of the region, and gave it large urban enclaves in its county. The accomplishments of the people, and their steadfastness, have ensured that tried and tested structures were retained and utilised for the growing development of the county. |
