Geesthacht
Largest town in the Count |
Geesthacht is the largest city in the Duchy of Lauenburg County with 29,000 inhabitants.
In the catchment area of the centre - right down in the south of the County near the River Elbe
- live another 10.000 people.
The accessibility to the international network of trunk roads couldn't be better: the A 25
goes to the metropolitan centre of Hamburg; the A 24 to Berlin is quickly within reach; as
the north-south connection the B 404 (Kiel-Lüneburg) goes directly through Geesthacht. The Elbe
port is suitable for inland vessels up to 1.350 gross registered tons (European ships) and is
available as a hub to the North and Baltic Sea. Via the "Elbe Lateral Canal" southwards is
the network of inland waterways.

The location of Geesthacht is in great demand - simply because of its strategically advantageous
location within the metropolitan region of Hamburg. And that's why industrial and commercial
areas are being expanded all the time.
